Overview

Kiwassa Neighbourhood House is a multi service agency in East Vancouver where people of all ages, cultures and walks of life can make friends, participate in programs, find resources, share ideas, and contribute to community life. We are seeking one enthusiastic and experienced Employment Skills Facilitator for a full-time contract position at Kiwassa on 2425 Oxford St. This position is for 35 hours a week. This position has an anticipated start date of October 23, 2023.

Job Summary

This is a hybrid position, including regular on-site work as well as some work from home options. The Facilitator is responsible for delivering job search workshops for a population that self-identifies as survivors of violence, abuse, and trauma. The successful candidate will deliver a series of 8-week employment readiness workshop, as well as recruit, onboard, document, and support program participants with their weekly work. The Facilitator will periodically update the workshop curriculum to reflect best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers effective classroom facilitation and instruction to improve adult learners’ employability;
  • Uses knowledge to provide training in experiential learning, Equity, Inclusion & Diversity (EID), and Trauma Informed practice to help support multi-needs and equity-seeking clients;
  • Assists in evaluating curriculum, teaching methodologies and regularly updates classroom instruction delivery in order to improve successful client outcomes;
  • Keeps abreast, and maintains an excellent working knowledge, of current labour market trends, employment issues, community resources, job training, and employment opportunities; Is familiar with, and able to work with, clients using the latest assistive technology;
  • Performs one on one meetings with clients/program participants providing mentorship and coaching towards employment goals;
  • Builds client rapport and engagement that is positive, empowering, client-centred, strengths-based; Assists in resolving client complaints and managing aggressive client behaviors;
  • Maintains and monitors client progress to successful job attachment outcomes by building a strong rapport with clients and documenting client activities in the program database reporting system;
  • Evaluates the process that determines how clients are referred to classroom instruction; assist coordinator/manager in refining the process regularly;
  • Attends and takes an active role in participating in program, departmental and all-staff meetings including integrated case conferences;
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community resource providers, networks, and partner organizations to help increase the reach to eligible individuals;
  • Maintains confidential client files in updates and reporting;
  • Works with the supervisors and management in the preparation of the annual budget, periodic reports;

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong facilitation / instruction skills with a minimum of 1 year experience in non-profit or social service sector;
    • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
    • Working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
    • Delivering basic life skills / essential work skills program
  • Must have excellent communication and computer skills; fluent in speaking and writing English;
  • Must possess up to date skills in job search, and career exploration/ labour market practices;
  • Satisfactory criminal record check clearance

Reporting Relationships

  • This position reports to the Employment Coordinator
  • Assists with recruitment needs as well, support in training staff
  • Interacts and works collaboratively with other employment staff including Job Developer, Trauma Counsellor, and Employment Coordinator

Renumeration: The wage rate for this position is set at JJEP Wage Grid Level 11 at $26.74
